Revamp of NY’s Marihuana Law Dead for Now

The New York Times has a sad update on the recent attempt to reform New York’s marihuana laws. You will recall, as noted in our last entry, that Governor Cuomo was trying to de-criminalize the open display of small amounts of marihuana (the possession in private of small amounts is already non-criminal, if still unlawful).

From the sound of things, the proposal was canned out of hand by the state Senate – a body made up entirely, as the Times points out, of white men. The attitude of Senate majority leader Dean Skelos, and his deep understanding of the issues, is apparent in the following clip from the Daily Show (the clip is from June 7th).
